a bit of history

The company started out in 2007 as purely a music review site for new recording artists to get some feedback on their work.

They added some new review sections in 2015 to include TV commercials, digital ads and fashion. They currently have over 2 million reviewers (so i’m pretty sure there’ll be some complaints about the company, but we’ll get into that a bit later).

signing up

The sign up procedure is very simple and straightforward with the standard name, password, email. You do have to enter your date of birth and your gender which i have no problem with, if you do then you’re out of luck and you won’t be able to sign up.

Once you’ve done that you have to confirm your email to be able to activate your account so be sure it’s a real email address. As soon as you  confirm by clicking the emailed link you’re good to go.

let’s review

Once you’re on the review section you’re presented with your choice of what you want to review, be that music, digital ads, commercials or you just fancy a lucky dip which is random selection of the previous 3.

One thing you will notice is that under them sections you have either bonus or standard or even max. Now what this means is that certain catergories will pay out more than others.

If music is your choice for review you will be asked  what sort of music you like, one thing to bear in mind is that you can’t change your genre choice at a later date so i would say choose as many as possible to maximise your chance of continued participation, basically so they don’t run out of music to show you.

The reviews you leave for music go straight to the artist so constructive reviews are probably going to be of more help than just saying ‘i really liked it’

I decided to give the tv commercials a shot

review

You can see in the screenshot that the commercial is only 31 sec long and how you review it is by using the wheel on your mouse to move the orange arrow up or down the sliding scale depending on what you think about the advert and how it made you feel.

If you feel the ad went too quick you can always replay it, but i found it best to just watch it through once and not to over analyze it too much.

commercial reviewAs you can see you have a text box to write your short review outlining what you thought of it, you have to keep typing until that short orange line underneath the box has filled the entire line, that’s the minimum, however the more detail you put in the more you can get paid.

That review was worth $0.11, not a lot i know and if you’re not used to writing the time it would take you to write the reviews, even though they’ll fairly short, will take you a fair amount of time.

I would have to do 90 reviews in an hour to accumulate a modest $10 that’s 1.5 reviews a minute bearing in mind that review took 31 sec to watch.

I used $10 as an example because that’s the minimum you need to be able to request a withdrawal

I’ve done 2 reviews and earned myself the grand total of $0.22, personally i don’t think it’s worth my time if i’m being honest.[su_divider top=”no” divider_color=”#d0d0d0″]

other ways to earn

So i think if this is to be worth it you’re going to need another way to bump up the payout. As i’ve already touched on, if you write high quality reviews you will see your star rating increase which will lead to a bigger base payment so basically  the better your review the better your payout, they just don’t tell you by how much or how long it will take you to increase the star rating.

One other way is the refer a friend option. This works by way of the people you refer using your unique code joining up and reviewing the same way that you do.

Every time they complete a review you get  a 50% cut of their earnings.

This lasts for the first 60 days after which it then reduces to 10%. There is no limit to how many people you can refer  however, there is a time limit on long you recieve them commissions from them. At the moment it stands at 1 year from their first review.[su_divider top=”no” divider_color=”#d0d0d0″]

slice the pie on the go

If you can’t wait to get home to review your next tv commercial or the next big thing in the music world then fear not you can go to your app store and download the slice the pie app.

slice the pie appToo be fair though the reviews aren’t great, there’s reports of not being able to submit your review and some serious concerns about location issues.[su_divider top=”no” divider_color=”#d0d0d0″]

any complaints

Unfortunately there does seem to be more complaints than positives about this site which is a shame because i think the idea behind it is pretty sound.

final thoughts

I really don’t think you’re going to earn anything worthwhile with this site, you would have to have a boat load of referrals to even think about it being worth your time, even then once your refferals have seen what it is they have to do and how little their going to get paid for the amount of time they would have to invest then i don’t think they’d stick around too long, so bang there goes any additional income you may have had the chance of getting.

The idea is good, but the execution of it leaves a lot to be desired. Sorry slice the pie i can’t give you an approved stamp on this one 🙁

  1. I am looking for a work from home position as I’m not working at the moment. But I do agree with you slice the pie wouldn’t be worth it to me, especially at this time in my life. It seems to be a something you do in your spare time when you don’t have much doing. What work at home job position would you recommend? Do you have a link on this website you could direct me to?

    • Yeah you’re absolutely right, it really is a spare time thing, not something you’re going to make a lot of money doing.

If you are serious about working from home then you are probably best having a look at my No1 recommendation at the top of the page. Here’s a link just in case

It really is one of the only places i have found that is the complete package.

  3. Thank you for this review and your honesty in it.
It is really hard to find any survey/review site that is willing to pay you an amount that is equivalent to the amount of time you are putting into them.
Writing a good thorough review can take a few minutes that is for sure. Only getting paid pennies, not worth it.
This is right up there with MySurveys and SwagBucks in my opinion. Not worth it.
Thank you for your information, I definitely won’t be trying Slice the pie.

    • For some reason surveys are extremely popular, i don’t know if it’s the lure of making some money while just answering some questions or writing a quick review, but the reality is, unfortunately, quite different and it’s not until you’ve actually tried it that you realise that it really isn’t worth the amount of time you invest.

  4. I’ve always been on the lookout for user testing options like this. I am good at writing reviews, and very thorough, but it seems difficult to find worthwhile opportunities.

Slice of Pie sounds really interesting? But I don’t know if it would be worth the time commitment.

Are you familiar with other forms of user testing? Like UserTest, or YouEye? I’m really interested in trying them, but I have had a hard time qualifying for them. They have thousands of applicants, and it’s pretty competitive.

    • As with all these types of ‘opportunities’ you have to weigh up the amount of time you spend doing something and the amount of money you get in return. I can’t say i’ve heard of the other two you mentioned… i might have to look into them.
