But, you might be wondering, how does this benefit you?

For the Testers

Now, let’s shift gears and talk about how you, as an individual looking to earn extra money, can jump into the action as a tester on UserTesting.com. It’s your time to shine!

1. Sign Up and Qualify: The journey begins with a simple sign-up process on UserTesting.com. You’ll need to provide some basic information about yourself.

After that, you’ll need to complete a qualification test to ensure you meet their requirements. This is where your honest feedback skills come into play.

2. Get Assignments: Once you’re in, you’ll start receiving assignments. These assignments typically involve testing websites, apps, or products.

You’ll be given specific tasks to complete while sharing your thoughts out loud. Don’t worry; it’s not a pop quiz! You’re just expressing your honest opinions.

3. Record Your Experience: As you complete the tasks, UserTesting.com will usually ask you to record your screen and voice.

This is where the magic happens. Your feedback, comments, and reactions are what the companies are after. So, speak your mind, and don’t hold back!

4. Get Paid: Ah, the moment of truth! You’ll be compensated for your time and effort. The amount you earn per test can vary, but it’s typically in the ballpark of $10 for about 20 minutes of work.

Some longer and more complex tests can pay even more. Payments are usually made via PayPal, so make sure you have an account set up.

5. Keep It Honest: One of the golden rules of being a tester is honesty. Companies want real, unfiltered feedback. So, don’t try to sugarcoat things or be overly critical for the sake of it. Just share your genuine thoughts and experiences.

6. Stay Active: To keep the opportunities flowing, it’s a good idea to stay active on the platform. The more tests you complete and the higher your rating, the more likely you are to receive more assignments.

So, there you have it! Becoming a tester on UserTesting.com is all about signing up, sharing your candid thoughts, and getting paid for your valuable insights.

It’s a flexible way to earn some extra money in your spare time, and it doesn’t require any special skills other than your honest opinions and a computer or mobile device.

But, of course, the big question remains: Is UserTesting.com the real deal, or is it too good to be true? Let’s explore that in the next section.

Is UserTesting a Scam or Legit?

Now, let’s tackle the million-dollar question: Is UserTesting.com the real deal, or should you approach it with caution? It’s only natural to have concerns, especially when it comes to earning money online. Let’s address some common concerns and separate fact from fiction:

1. Payment Issues: Some users worry about getting paid. Rest assured, UserTesting.com is a legitimate platform. They have a track record of paying testers for their work. While it’s true that some issues may arise occasionally, such as delayed payments, these are usually isolated incidents and not indicative of a widespread problem.

2. Qualification Tests: The qualification tests might seem challenging to some, and failing one can be discouraging. However, they’re in place to ensure that testers can provide valuable feedback to companies. Take your time, be honest, and you’ll likely qualify.

3. Limited Availability: It’s true that UserTesting.com might not have tests available around the clock. The number of available tests can fluctuate, and it may take a bit of patience to find consistent opportunities. But when they come, they’re worth your time.

4. Not a Full-Time Gig: UserTesting.com is not a get-rich-quick scheme or a replacement for a full-time job. It’s designed for individuals looking to earn extra money in their spare time. If you’re seeking a substantial income, you may need to explore other avenues.

5. Privacy Concerns: Some testers worry about privacy when recording their screens and voices. UserTesting.com takes privacy seriously and typically requires testers not to disclose any personal information during tests. Your data is used solely for research purposes.

UserTesting.com is a legitimate platform that connects individuals with companies looking for user feedback. It’s a way to earn extra money, not a scam. However, it’s essential to approach it with realistic expectations.

It won’t make you a millionaire overnight, but it can be a valuable source of supplementary income.

So, if you’re looking to put your opinions to good use and earn some extra cash while doing it, UserTesting.com is a legit option worth exploring.

Just remember, like any opportunity, it has its pros and cons which I’ll go over in a later section.

It’s up to you to decide if it fits your financial goals and lifestyle. Happy testing!

What are the typical test instructions and requirements?

During a typical user testing session on UserTesting.com, testers are provided with specific test instructions and requirements to follow.

These instructions are designed to guide testers through the evaluation process and ensure that feedback is valuable and consistent.

While the exact instructions may vary depending on the test, here are some typical elements you might encounter:

Introduction and Overview:

  • Testers are usually provided with an introduction that includes information about the purpose of the test, the website or app being tested, and the overall goal of the test. This section sets the context for the test.

Scenario and Tasks:

  • Testers are presented with a scenario or a hypothetical situation that they should imagine themselves in. For example, they might be told, “Imagine you are planning a trip to New York City.” Then, specific tasks are assigned to testers, such as “Find a hotel for your stay” or “Book a flight.”

Think Aloud:

  • Testers are often instructed to “think aloud” as they complete tasks. This means they should verbalize their thoughts, feelings, and reactions as they navigate the website or app. This helps capture their real-time feedback.

Time Limits:

  • Some tests may have time limits for completing tasks to simulate real user experiences. Testers are instructed to complete tasks within a specified time frame.

Recording:

  • Testers are required to use the UserTesting screen recording software to capture their actions on the screen, including mouse movements and clicks. They are also required to use a microphone to record their spoken thoughts.

Follow Instructions Carefully:

  • Testers are reminded to carefully follow the provided instructions, as they are essential for completing the test accurately. They should not deviate from the assigned tasks unless instructed to do so.

Reporting Issues:

  • Testers are encouraged to report any issues, errors, or usability problems they encounter during the test. This can include broken links, confusing navigation, or technical glitches.

Honesty and Objectivity:

  • Testers are expected to provide honest and objective feedback, even if they encounter issues or have a negative experience with the website or app. Their feedback helps improve the product.

Privacy and Data Handling:

  • Testers are reminded to respect the privacy of the website or app users and not to disclose any personal information during the test. They are also informed about how their recorded data will be handled and anonymized.

Test Completion:

  • After completing the assigned tasks and providing feedback, testers may be instructed on how to end the test and submit their recordings.

These are the typical test instructions and requirements that testers encounter on UserTesting.com.

It’s essential for testers to carefully read and follow these instructions to provide valuable feedback to clients.

Is there a limit to the number of tests I can take per day or week?

UserTesting.com does not typically impose a strict limit on the number of tests you can take per day or week.

However, there are several factors that can affect the number of test invitations you receive and, consequently, the number of tests you can participate in:

Test Availability:

  • The number of test invitations you receive can vary based on the demand from UserTesting.com clients. Some days you may receive more invitations than others.

User Profile:

  • Your demographic information, interests, and the characteristics that match the target audience of a particular test can influence how many test invitations you receive. Some testers may match the criteria for more tests than others.

Qualification:

  • You must meet the specific requirements set by clients for each test. If you don’t meet these requirements, you won’t receive an invitation for that test.

Geographic Location:

  • Test availability can also depend on your geographic location. Some tests may be targeted at users in specific regions or countries.

Test Selection:

  • Testers can choose which tests to accept or decline based on their interests and availability. It’s up to you to decide which tests you want to participate in.

Completion Rate:

  • Consistently completing tests accurately and providing high-quality feedback can lead to more test invitations over time. Clients may prefer testers who have a good track record.

While there is no strict limit on the number of tests you can take, it’s important to manage your expectations. Test availability can fluctuate, and it’s not guaranteed that you’ll receive a constant stream of invitations.

To maximize your earnings on UserTesting.com, consider the following tips:

  • Keep an Eye on Your Dashboard: Regularly check your UserTesting.com dashboard for new test invitations. Be prompt in accepting tests that match your profile and interests.
  • Enable Email Notifications: Ensure that you have email notifications enabled so that you are alerted when new tests become available.
  • Complete Tests Thoroughly: Provide detailed and high-quality feedback in your tests to build a positive reputation as a tester. This can lead to more test invitations.
  • Diversify Your Profile: Update your demographic information and interests in your UserTesting.com profile to potentially qualify for a broader range of tests.
  • Be Patient and Persistent: Test availability can vary, so it’s important to be patient and persistent in your testing efforts. Continue to check for new opportunities regularly.

Are There Any Complaints?

UserTesting.com is a legitimate and reputable platform that connects companies with testers for user feedback and usability testing.

However, like any online platform, there have been some user complaints and concerns. I

t’s important to note that individual experiences can vary, and not all users may have the same issues. Here are a few common complaints or concerns that have been raised by some users:

Limited Test Availability:

  • Some testers have reported inconsistent test availability. They mentioned that there are periods when they receive fewer test invitations, leading to potential fluctuations in their earnings.

Qualification for Tests:

  • Not all testers may qualify for every test. Testers are often screened based on their demographics and other criteria, which can result in not being eligible for certain tests.

Competition:

  • UserTesting.com has a large pool of testers, which means there is competition for available tests. Some testers have reported that tests can fill up quickly, especially if they are high-paying or match a broad demographic.

Low-Paying Tests:

  • While there are high-paying tests available, some testers have expressed concerns about the availability of low-paying tests, which may not provide a significant income.

Payment Threshold:

  • There have been complaints about the $10 minimum payment threshold, as it can take some time for testers to accumulate enough earnings to request a payout.

Technical Issues:

  • Occasionally, testers may encounter technical issues with the screen recording software or the UserTesting website, which can disrupt their testing experience.

Payment Delays:

  • Some testers have reported delays in receiving their payments, although UserTesting.com aims to process payments weekly.

Test Review and Rejections:

  • Testers’ submitted tests are reviewed by UserTesting.com before payment is issued. In some cases, tests may be rejected if they don’t meet quality or completeness standards, which can be frustrating for testers.

It’s important to emphasize that UserTesting.com has taken steps to address many of these concerns and improve the user experience.

Additionally, individual experiences can vary widely, and many testers have had positive experiences on the platform, earning income while providing valuable feedback to companies.

If you decide to use UserTesting.com, it’s essential to manage your expectations, be patient, and maintain professionalism when participating in tests.

Reading and following the provided instructions carefully can also help improve your success and overall experience on the platform.

Final Thoughts

So, Is Usertesting a scam? In all honesty I’ve got to say this is one of the better options to earn a bit of extra cash that is out there at the moment, now I’m not saying it’s perfect, but from what I’ve seen there is no reason to think that this is anything but a legitimate company.

The site is very easy to navigate around and pretty transparent in regard to setting peoples expectations of what they can earn.

I’m sure you know that although this is a perfectly good way to earn a few extra dollars you could be earning a lot more with your time don’t you.

You can actually start your own online business in the form of affiliate marketing with your own website.

Sound scary? It isn’t really and if I can do it then I’m sure you can do it as well.

I’ve done a thorough review of the platform that taught me and can easily teach you just as well. Just click this text to take you to the review to find out more. If you need any help or have some questions just let me know.

OK so now it’s your turn. Have you had any luck with Usertesting? Share your thoughts below.

  2. Great article. I have tried a couple of survey testing sites as well. But I never qualified for any of the user testing. I never received any money and they never choose me. Mine was a complete waste of time. However, after reading your article I might try again. Who can’t use extra cash. The ones I tried are not on your website so maybe I will try one of these for some better results. Thank you for the article.

  3. Hi, Sharon,

Thank you for this profound review of Usertesting. It”s always good to know that it is not a scam and I will give it a try, as I like very much to participate in surveys and tests.

You also mention that Wealthy Affiliate program is your # 1 recommendation for making money online from home. It sounds like a very serious platform, but could you share what attracts you most there?

    Thank you!

    • I have to say that Usertesting is one of the better paying sites out there at the moment for this type of thing. With regards to Wealthy Affiliate, i have been a member there for over 3 years now and can honestly say the place never ceases to stop moving forward. It is always evolving for the benefit of it’s members to enable them and me compete in what is a very competitive industry with the amount of training being delivered, be that live or ‘classrooom’ based. I almost forgot the community, everybody helps you, whenever you’re stuck or feel like you’re not moving in the right direction there is always someone to give advice, even the owners Kyle and Carson.

  4. Hi there, thanks for your comprehensive review on usertesting. It seems like a perfectly good way to make a few hundred extra bucks a month, and especially good if you don’t have a whole lot of time to spare, so it does have its good points.
However, I think, as you point out, that it is a far better use of your time to build your own business that will yield you profits long term. Wealthy Affiliate certainly is the best platform for that as it teaches you so much about affiliate marketing. Plus, the courses are easy to follow even for beginners so you can’t go wrong. I can’t recommend it enough!

  5. I have looked into Usertesting before on my quest to find a part-time job I can from home. The promise of making $10 per website test sounds great!

But I’m not keen on the idea of doing a sample video and waiting to know whether I’m excepted or not, and also not knowing how many tests are available.

I guess it depends on how many members’ are running tests and how much money is available in the pot to pay testers.

Although there are some cons to the site, I still think Usertesting is far more rewarding than other “Get Paid To” programs that pay peanuts for taking surveys, etc.

    Thanks for the review, Sharon!
