Freedom With Writing Review – Is It A Scam?

Welcome to our Freedom with Writing review, If you’ve heard of this company you might be thinking how does it actually work and is it actually free like they claim it is or are you going to be fleeced further down the line.

Granted, this is a bit of a strange one at first glance so the only way to get a better picture is to sign up and find out for ourselves.

what is freedom with writing about

Freedom with Writing is a free web magazine for freelance writers. They basically send you reviews of companies with freelance writing jobs and different related articles to assist you in your chosen field of writing.

Now here’s the strange thing I’ve been a member for around 3 months now and in that time I would fully expect to have at least one recommendation in all the emails I’ve got that I would have to pay for if I wanted it and in the process they would get a commission.

However there has been absolutely no affiliate links in any material I’ve been sent.

What I have got Is some solid information on different writing job opportunities. For example at the moment they are currently showing a paid publishing opportunity with Chicken Soup for the Soul which are asking for submissions on a current  topic called Running for good  in which they’re looking for personal stories about how running can improve your health and quality of life or even help charities.

The reward for your story being used is $200 per published article plus 10 free copies of book which their story is in.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that I have no Idea as of yet how on earth Freedom with Writing makes any money, I just don’t know.

Now don’t get me wrong I think that’s an admirable way to do things, but they have to earn a living somehow right. Which is why I think there is some suspicion surrounding them

Another quick example was a 1550 word review of a site that accepts writers called Scripted. Again not one single link, let alone an affiliate link in the entire piece. I had to Google search the company.

And it’s been like that for the past 3 months.[su_divider top=”no”]

how much does it cost to join

Absolutely nothing, nada, zilch. I’m not quite sure how they keep it free, but it is. So you’ve got nothing to lose, all you have to do is put in your email and you’re good to go.

I know what you’re thinking and that is you’re going to get bombarded with spam because they must be selling your address to get some kind of income if they are not going to charge you.

I can say from first hand experience that this is not the case. In fact when you subscribe you get a free 54 page ebook about how to write an ebook!

freedom with writing ebook

Now you may not want to write an ebook at this moment in time, but having gone through the book I can say there is some great information in there even if the book is a few years old now (it was published in 2014) and ebooks are a great way to make some money or you can give them away as a lead magnet.[su_divider top=”no”]

inside fww

There is no real inside to this, no swanky website, no real navigation around the very plain site, it is just a e-magazine you get delivered to your inbox. Incredibly this has been going since 1999, how do I know that? Well I did manage to find an archives catergory in a search string.

So if you know where to look there is a ton of information dating back to when they first started which I dare say you would get drip fed through the emails.

how do you earn money

Make no mistake, Freedom with Writing does not pay you. You will get paid by the companies that you personally sign up for. These companies are reviewedan recommended by Freedom with Writing, but it is your responsibilty to find out if that particular company is the kind you want to work with.

So it’s always best to do your own research into a company before committing yourself and finding out later down the line that they’re not what you thought they was.

The 2 companies that they recommended in the first email, Scripted and WriterAccess, are both companies that I haven’t personally worked with so if I wanted to work with them I would go to there website and get a feel for the company, Google them to see what kind of reviews are out there.[su_divider top=”no”]

final thoughts

Well, I really didn’t know what to expect from this, what did I call it at the beginning, A bit of a strange one, and to fair that hasn’t really changed.

The reason i say that is because having seen so many companies that fail to live up to what they claim it feels a bit strange to find one that seemingly just wants to help freelance writers get ahead in the industry.

At first glance you’d be forgiven for thinking this has scam written all over it, but it’s not, and fair play to Jacob Jans, who owns and is editor of Freedom with Writing, for putting together a platform that I’m sure has and will continue to help aspiring writers.

If you enjoy writing then you might want to take a look at a better way to earn money with your talent. Why not create your own blog.

Sounds scary right. It’s not, if I can do it then anyone can do it, you just need the right teachers.

That is exactly what I found at Wealthy Affiliate. They taught me how to create a website, how to monetise that website and make a good living from it. And you can do it too.

  1. Interesting review, Sharon. I’ve been a Freedom With Writing subscriber for over a year now and love their work. They do have ads sprinkled around so I assume they’re getting revenue there.
Sometimes you get a request to download an ebook that they’ve written and want to promote. These are always free for a month or so and are good value.
They also partner with Ian Chandler on the Writing Launch membership site which has seven or eight different courses around aspects of freelance writing. I’m a member of that site. Once I’ve gone through all the courses I won’t keep paying my monthly fee but I reckon I have had good value from it for sure.
Good on you for giving them a review and I’ll back up your words 100%.

  2. Hi Sharon,
Great review and a great article. I’m all praise for you. The content flows smoothly from one topic to the other and provides a lot of information. I liked the way you incorporated WA in it. Learned a lot as a new member to WA. Thank you for the insight.
